Having a deck is great in the fall. You can host family and friends over for barbecues and parties, and you get to spend some quality time out in your backyard. While enjoying your deck is easy, having to perform maintenance on your Maryland deck can be tiresome.

Luckily, there are a number of low-maintenance decking options that you can choose from. As an experienced Maryland deck construction company, we thought we would take a little bit of time today to talk about these materials.

    1. Composite Decking

Composite decking has been a popular material within the Maryland deck building industry since the 1990s, and one of the reasons it’s so appealing is the fact that it is relatively low-maintenance. Composite decking is made of a combination of both natural wood fiber and plastic, which makes it a strong and durable material. It doesn’t require any staining or sealing and is a material that you can count on for years.

    1. Fiber Cement Decking

Another great, low-maintenance option for your Maryland deck is fiber cement decking. It’s made from a mixture of cellulose fiber, sand, silica, glass, and Portland cement. There’s almost no maintenance, and it comes in a variety of colors and stains, including woodgrain. The only real downside of the material is that it can be tricky to install. There’s a danger that silica dust, which is harmful when breathed in, can be released into the air during construction. To prevent this, special equipment and processes are used to ensure safety.

    1. Vinyl Decking

The last material we wanted to talk about today is vinyl decking. Vinyl doesn’t peel, chip, fade or rot, so you can rest easy knowing your deck will have that “new deck” look for years to come. Like many other decking materials, vinyl does tend to get quite hot under the sun, and there is a risk that over time your deck can become warped, but as long as you keep an eye out for any warps you can prevent your entire deck from doing so with a little maintenance.
