Trying to design the deck of your dreams can be exciting, but it can also be difficult if you don’t know exactly what you want. Here at North American Deck and Patio, we’ve been helping Maryland homeowners design the decks of their dreams for years, and we can help you too. We wanted to take some time today to write out a few designing tips to help you match your home with your new deck.
Consider Lighting
How much natural light does your backyard receive? This may not be something everyone thinks about when looking to build a new deck, but it’s something you should consider. In addition to providing you and your family with an amazing relaxation spot, your deck could also provide your yard with more light. You could have small recessed lamps installed, or could have lanterns or spotlights placed across your deck. We’d recommend installing some solar panels along with your lights, making them completely sustainable.
Make Sure You’re Up to Code
You probably don’t want to think about building codes when dreaming about your new deck, but nevertheless they need to be considered. For instance, railings are typically required to be at least 36 inches high, and be at least 30 inches off the ground. Unless you’re an experienced contractor yourself, you’re probably not very experienced with building codes, so be sure to get in touch with a professional Maryland construction company before you start building anything.
Build Around Trees and Plants
Many homeowners have decided to incorporate their yard’s natural foliage into their deck designs. These decks come with an increased level of maintenance, since leaves and sticks will be falling, but the natural beauty they provide makes up for it in many homeowner’s eyes.
