While some may be trying to keep up with the Kardashians, we’re trying to keep up with deck trends! Things move fast in the deck and patio industry, but that’s why we’re here as your Maryland deck builder to help you stay on top of the latest decking trends.

A modern, gray deck

Out With the Old and in With the Bold

Perhaps the biggest trend of 2019 is the shift towards bolder colors. In the past, decks were often made with very mild or pastel colored wood, but recent trends have pushed for bolder and bolder colors. Many homeowners are opting for darker and richer woods and stains.

We, as Maryland deck builders, have already seen an increase in demand for colors such as chocolate, chili pepper, and rich cappuccino, and we’re expecting other colors such as: red-browns, caramels, and mushroom tones, to increase in popularity as well. In addition to these colors, there are a number of other directions you can go with your deck. Let’s look at some of the top color trends of 2019:

The Blues

No, not the kind of blues you sing when you lose your job, these are vibrant and bold blues that are perfect for your deck. While certainly not a traditional color, blue has been growing in popularity, and there are many different shades to choose from. Some of the more popular shades include: Aqua Smoke, Neptune, Rainbow Bright, and Caribbean Splash.

The Grays

OK. Perhaps the color gray doesn’t scream bold, but that’s a perception that we think will change. While there are still traditional softer grays like Fog and Gray Frost, there are some much bolder options as well. Colors like: Lava Gray, Hatteras Gray, Artillery and Up in Smoke. These colors are bold, while also maintaining a bit of a traditional look.

The Reds

Again, not your first thought (we’re not talking about communists), we’re talking about the color red. You know, firetrucks, the Kansas City Chiefs, apples, that red! Red is a very bold color, perhaps the most bold. Some of the most popular shades of red we’ve been seeing are: Red Licorice, Rum Punch, Crushed Tomatoes, Calypso Berry and Teaberry Blossom.
